There are several ways to use a PNG mockup template. This tutorial will show you how insert a custom image into a PNG mockup template using Canva.
The PNG mockup file I'm using as an example has a "cut out" transparent section in the frame that allows your image to show through when it is placed underneath.
Let's get started!
Open Canva and select Create a Design > Custom Dimensions.
Enter desired dimensions. I suggest a size of 3000 x 2400 px as it is a good size for Etsy listing photos. Then click Create Design.
You now need to create a "Grid" for the template to be inserted in to. Click on the "Graphics" tab on the far left of the screen.
Scroll down to the "Grids" category. Click and drag the single square onto the white workspace. When you release the mouse it should automatically fill the space.
Your screen should now look like the one below.
Click the "Uploads" tab.
Click the "Upload an Image" Button.
Double click on the PNG version of the mock up to open it.
The mock up image should now appear in the side panel. Click and drag it from the side panel onto the workspace.
It should automatically fill the workspace.
Next we need to create another grid for your image to go into to, so, as in Step 3, select the Graphics tab, then choose the single square from the "Grids" category. Drag this onto the mock up image.
Resize the grid by clicking and dragging the "handles" on each corner and the middle of each edge.
Adjust the grid so that it covers the insert area on the mock up frame as indicated below.
Click on the "Uploads" tab, then "Upload an Image" as in Steps 5 and 6.
Double click on the file you wish to insert into the mock up.
Your image should now appear in the side panel. Click and drag your image into the grid you just created.
Your inserted image will be sitting on top of the template as indicated below. We will move it behind the template in the next step.
With your inserted image selected, click Position, then Backwards from the top right of the screen. This will place your inserted image behind the template so that it appears as if it's in the frame.
Click anywhere on the workspace to deselect everything and see your completed mock up.
If you need to adjust the position of your inserted image within the frame, click anywhere on the template, then Position > Background. This moves the template to the back and your inserted image to the front so it can be edited.
Click on your inserted image and resize as necessary.
When finished, with the image still selected, click Position > Backwards, as in Step 15, to place your image behind the template once again.
Lastly, save and download your completed project as normal.
Congratulations, you did it!
I hope you found this tutorial helpful and easy to use..
